Disable UART Debug Console [ANSWERED]

Postby ChasenTheBeers » Thu Jan 19, 2017 7:41 pm

I am looking for a way to disable the uart debug console so I can use it for another peripheral on my board. My original plan was to move it it to one of the UARTS I wasnt using, however I am using UARTS 1-5 and when I attempt to move it to 6 or 7 I am getting compile errors.

Any assistance would greatly be appreciated.

PS. I am using the IMX6UL-DART some on my own custom board running debian Jessie.

I will need to do a similar thing eventually on my IMX6UL-DART, so perhaps we can share some ideas.

I remember successfully moving the Linux debug console from ttymxc0 to ttymxc2. I had to change one of the .dts or .dtsi files and re-generate the corresponding .dtb file, then change the linux command line to contain 'console=ttymxc2,115200 ...'

1. Do you want to disable the uart debug console in U-Boot, Linux, or both?
2. Are you getting the compilation errors when you modify the .dts file?

I've updated our DART-6UL UART Wiki page with two sections: "Use UART3 for console (instead of UART1)" and "Disable the console":
