Screen mirroring on VAR-SOM-MX6

Postby matthias.wallnoefer » Wed Mar 22, 2017 4:18 pm

We managed to correctly configure the dual screen mode (LVDS + HDMI) according to the instructions found in: http://variwiki.com/index.php?title=VAR-SOM-MX6_Dual_Displays.

Our questions:
  • Which are the right options to pass to Weston to have the dual display mode enabled? Since per default only the fb0 device gets enabled.
  • Does Weston offer some kind of mirroring mode where the same desktop is shown on both LVDS and HDMI? Of course the HDMI resolution may be scaled down to the LVDS' one.
  • Is Wayland/Weston really superior to X11 in this scenarios, as other sources state?

Hi Matthias,
here you can find some indications:

* dual display activation in wayland
https://community.nxp.com/thread/435386

* mirror mode (not supported)
There's a pending patch not yet approved:
https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/85106/

* best choice
Specifically for dual display mirror mode, X11 is better than wayland
However I would suggest to carefully read this:
