Intermittent startup issue with WL1837MOD on DART

Postby chrisw957 » Wed Nov 30, 2016 4:29 pm

We're using a Variscite i.mx6 DART with WL1837MOD module, running a 4.1.15 kernel with the following software versions:

wlcore: wl18xx HW: 183x or 180x, PG 2.2 (ROM 0x11)
wlcore: driver version: R8.6_SP1
wlcore: PHY firmware version: Rev 8.2.0.0.233
wlcore: firmware booted (Rev 8.9.0.1.55)

Our problem is intermittent power on issues with the radio module. Around 30% of the time, the system will boot, and look completely normal, but wifi scans return nothing. There don't appear to be any errors in the logs. Doing a simple "rmmod wl18xx" and "modprobe wl18xx" will restore normal operation.

I started a thread on this on the TI e2e forum, and they are suggesting it might be a problem with the fast clock frequency detection:
https://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless_connectivity/wilink_wifi_bluetooth/f/307/p/558214/2043662#2043662

I tried changing the startup-delay-us for the wlan-en-regulator from 70000 to 250000, but I still see the issue.

Can someone from Variscite look at this?

Hi,
I've tested this on Yocto using latest Jethro image v64 booting from SD card but could not reproduce this.
Can you please test this with image V64 available here:
ftp://customerv:Variscite1@ftp.variscit ... cy-images/
Please elaborate a bit on your setup, are you booting from SD/eMMC using Yocto/Android?

Hi Aviad,

It's a yocto/poky based image. We're booting off an sd card on our custom board. The kernel is yours with a few extra custom drivers. I don't think we've really touched u-boot beyond a few changes to customize the default environment variables.

We have a init script that runs at boot which we are using to test wifi connectivity. It just does a few simple commands shown below.

I will test with the factory image and get back to you.

Thanks,
Chris

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

cd /usr/share/wl18xx
wpa_supplicant -Dnl80211 -iwlan0 -c/usr/share/wl18xx/wpa_supplicant.conf &
sleep 2
rm /var/run/wpa_supplicant/p2p-dev-wlan0

wpa_cli scan

Hi,
Please test WiFi network scanning using our image according to our wiki:
